Basic Rock Climbing Course (BRCC)
Introduction
The Basic Rock Climbing Course (BRCC) by Giripremi’s Giripremi Giri Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM) offers a four-day residential training program for beginners. The course introduces safe and practical rock climbing skills while building a strong foundation for trekking and mountaineering. Participants learn through hands-on practice under expert guidance in a structured outdoor environment.
Course Overview
This certificate course suits rock climbing enthusiasts as well as trekkers who want to move safely in rocky terrain. GGIM’s experienced instructors lead the program using a scientific and step-by-step training method. As a result, participants gain confidence, strength, and technical understanding.
Moreover, the course balances theory with extensive practical sessions. Trainees learn correct climbing posture, rope handling, knots, belaying techniques, rappelling, and basic rescue skills. The training also builds teamwork, discipline, and situational awareness.

Itinerary
Course Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival & Orientation
Reporting at Ferguson College, Pune followed by a drive to the
GGIM Training Site in Mulshi. On arrival at the campsite, participants will be briefed about the campsite facilities and the course structure. The afternoon includes an indoor learning session, followed by an outdoor bouldering session in the evening. The day concludes with a short adventure film screening and dinner.
Day 2 | Learning the Skills
Day 2 begins early morning with hot tea and breakfast. The morning outdoor session focuses on learning essential skills such as rock climbing and rappelling, with hands-on practice under instructor guidance. The afternoon indoor session covers map reading, firstaid, and other foundational mountaineering knowledge. In the evening, participants will watch films related to rock climbing and mountaineering. The day ends after a hot dinner.
Day 3 | Learning the Skills
Day 3 starts early with hot tea and breakfast. The morning outdoor session introduces a new climbing technique known as jummaring. Participants will also practice rock climbing on multiple routes set up at the training site to improve technique and confidence.
Day 4 | Test & Result Day
On the final day, participants will be tested based on the skills learned over the previous three days. The assessment includes a written test and a viva examination. Results will be declared shortly after evaluation. A felicitation ceremony follows, during which participants will be awarded their certificates and badges. The course concludes after the ceremony.
