High Altitude Certificate Course (HACC)

The High Altitude Certificate Course (HACC) is a professional training program offered by Giripremi’s Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM). This course helps participants develop essential snow and ice climbing skills under the guidance of Giripremi’s most experienced mountaineers. It is ideal for those who wish to begin their journey in high-altitude mountaineering.

Course Overview – High Altitude Mountaineering Training in Snow and Ice

The main objective of this course is to provide a strong and practical introduction to snow and ice craft. Participants learn how to use specialized mountaineering equipment safely and effectively. As a result, trainees build the confidence and technical ability required for future high-altitude expeditions.

Moreover, the course focuses on real-world application. Trainees practice walking, climbing, and moving efficiently on snow- and ice-covered terrain. Through continuous hands-on training, they gain valuable experience that forms a solid foundation for advanced mountaineering challenges.

In addition, the course exposes participants to the physical and mental demands of high-altitude environments. This experience prepares them for climbing bigger peaks while encouraging discipline, teamwork, and sound decision-making in extreme conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1 – 21 May 2026 | Reporting at Naggar (1650 m)

Arrive at Naggar base camp near the historic village of Naggar. Post lunch, there will be a course briefing followed by an acclimatization trek to explore the Naggar  heritage Village.

Day 2 – 22 May 2026 | Acclimatization Day (2000 m)

Acclimatization day includes multiple course-related activities. Participants will engage in a high rope course for hands-on experience in navigating challenging obstacles. An informative session will introduce all technical equipment to be used during the course, followed by distribution of personal gear.

Day 3 – 23 May 2026 | Trek to Bakarthach Base Camp (3100 m)

Transfer from Naggar to Dhundi by vehicle (approximately 1.5 hours), followed by a 3-hour trek from Dhundi to Bakarthach Training Camp, which will serve as the base for the entire training period.

Day 4 & 5 – 24–25 May 2026 | Snow Craft / Expedition Training (3500 m)

Training begins with mastering the correct handling of technical gear. Participants will practice safe ascent and descent on snow slopes. Key skills such as anchoring, belaying, self-arrest, glissading, and team arrest will be covered. In-depth  discussions on avalanches and mountain hazards will also be conducted.  Participants opting only for Friendship Peak climbing must report at
Naggar Base Camp on 25 May 2026 for preparation and acclimatization.

Day 6 & 7 – 26–27 May 2026 | Ice Craft / Expedition Training (3500 m)

Each day involves a one-hour uphill hike to the glacier for ice training sessions. Using specialized equipment such as ice axes, crampons, and ice screws,  participants will practice crampon techniques, rope fixing, rappelling, anchor and belay setup, glacier traversing, and crevasse rescue. Ice wall climbing will be practiced as part of the training regimen. The course concludes with an examination followed by certificate distribution for training-only participants.

Day 8 – 28 May 2026 | Examination Day / Expedition (3900 m)

All participants will undergo theory, practical, and oral examinations after completing training at Bakarthach Camp. Participants continuing for the Friendship Peak expedition will attend a brief revision session focusing on high-altitude climbing techniques and procedures.

Day 9 – 29 May 2026 | Course Returns / Expedition (3900 m)

Participants opting only for training will trek back to Dhundi and transfer by cab to Naggar. Expedition participants will climb further to Lady Leg Camp with
their expedition gear in preparation for the summit phase.

Day 10 – 30 May 2026 | Course Concluded / Expedition (4700 m)

The training programme concludes with certificate distribution
and a farewell breakfast. Training participants are free to
depart after 9:00 AM.

The expedition team proceeds to Summit Camp, where preparations
are made for the Friendship Peak summit attempt, followed by
acclimatization activities.

Day 11 – 31 May 2026 | Friendship Peak Summit Day (3900 m)

The expedition team occupies Summit Camp early in the morning.
At approximately 1:00 AM, the team departs for the summit bid.
The summit push involves a long and demanding climb of
approximately 10–12 hours from Summit Camp to the summit and
back to Lady Leg Camp.

Day 12 – 01 June 2026 | Return to Naggar

The team departs from Lady Leg Camp and treks down to Dhundi.
From Dhundi, participants are transferred by cab back to Naggar.

Day 13 – 02 June 2026 | Certificate Distribution

The programme concludes with final certificate distribution
and a farewell breakfast. All participants are free to depart
after 9:00 AM.

Includes and Excludes

✔️ Fees INCLUDE:

✔️ Accommodation in spacious and comfortable tents/huts at base camp.
✔️ Accommodation in alpine tents (2-men/4-men) during the training, with sleeping bags, fleece inners, and trekking mats. (A separate toilet tent facility is provided.)
✔️ A variety of wholesome, hygienic vegetarian meals during the programme.
✔️ Services of a cook and kitchen helpers, along with all necessary kitchen items and utensils.
✔️ Technical equipment such as climbing boots, crampons, gaiters, climbing ropes, ascenders, descenders, helmets, ice screws, carabiners, snow stakes, and other technical equipment will be provided.
✔️ Training by qualified GGIM instructors.
✔️ Vehicular transport from Naggar to Dhundi and back to Naggar after completion of the training, using cabs/Tempo Traveller.
✔️ Insurance of technical staff and camp staff (trainees must obtain their own insurance).
✔️ First-aid kit with an oxygen cylinder.
✔️ All forest and camping charges.

❌ Fees DO NOT INCLUDE:

❌ Any accidental, emergency, travel, or medical insurance for the climbing party. It is strongly recommended that trainees obtain comprehensive insurance before the programme.
Any expenses of a personal nature.
Any and all evacuation charges (medical emergency or otherwise), or hospitalization or physician consultation charges. Your own insurance policy should ideally cover this.
Beverages or drinks of any sort, including soft drinks, alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks, or bottled/mineral water.
Any charges for manual or helicopter evacuation in case of a medical emergency or the like.
Any personal climbing gear or equipment not mentioned above.
Any other services not specifically mentioned in the service inclusions.

Registration Formalities

  • Pay the Booking Fees.
  • One-time online enrollment form. Kindly fill this form if you are associating with GGIM for the first time (Ignore if already filled)
  • Medical Form: Medical form should be duly filled, signed and stamped from a doctor (MBBS and above)
