  • Medically and physically fit to undergo the course.
  • Practice of carrying load up to 15 kg on a trail for 2 hours is recommended.

Advance Rock Climbing Course

This is a certificate course offered by GGIM in Advanced Rock Climbing techniques.

This course is beneficial to the rock climbing enthusiasts who are already having the skill set and knowledge of rock climbing and now wish to go for climbing different rocks faces and pinnacles. Giripremi‘s highly experienced rock climbers and instructors conduct this course. The syllabus of the course is designed scientifically and systematically in such a way that those who complete this course can lead the small rock patches on their own and also participate in big rock climbing projects.

Course Content: 

1. Advanced Safety & Gear Handling : In-depth use, inspection, and management of advanced safety gear, including:

  • Ascenders
  • Belay devices
  • Protection tools
  • Understanding fall factors, force distribution, and gear reliability in varied climbing scenarios.

2. Navigation & Route Planning

  • Reading and interpreting topographic maps, topos, and terrain features for approach and descent.
  • Identifying risk zones and developing route strategies and escape plans.

3. Advanced Jumaring & Rappelling

  • Techniques for ascending fixed ropes using mechanical devices.
  • Safe and efficient use of jumars in varied terrain.
  • Practical application through climbing route setups.

4. Lead Climbing Techniques

  • Transitioning from top-rope to lead climbing with correct clipping techniques and fall management.
  • Mastering movement flow, route reading, and body positioning on vertical terrain.

5. Knots, Anchors & Rope Systems

  • Building multi-point anchors and understanding equalization principles.
  • Application of advanced knots in rappelling, hauling, and rescue systems.

6. Expedition Planning

  • Planning and executing Sahyadri rock climbing expeditions.
  • Developing leadership-oriented skills for decision-making, logistics, and risk management.

Itinerary

Course Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival & Orientation

Reporting at Ferguson College, Pune, followed by a drive to the GGIM Training Site at Valane, Mulshi. On arrival, participants will receive an orientation covering the
course structure, technical gear, safety protocols, and campsite setup.
The day includes an indoor session introducing advanced climbing systems, followed by an evening outdoor bouldering session. The day concludes with a short film screening and dinner.

Day 2 | Learning the Skills

Day 2 begins early morning with hot tea and breakfast. The outdoor morning session focuses on advanced techniques such as lead climbing and belaying, practiced under close instructor supervision. The afternoon session introduces multi-pitch rappelling and jumaring (ascending using mechanical devices).
In the evening, participants enjoy films on alpine climbing and expedition
stories. The day ends with a group debrief and dinner.

Day 3 | Advanced Climbing Practice

After breakfast, the day continues with intensive outdoor training focused on leading climbs on rock. Participants will further practice jumaring and tackle multi-route climbing setups with increased difficulty in more dynamic and exposed terrain.
Emphasis is placed on route assessment, personal efficiency, and technical control. Sessions also include navigation basics, expedition planning, and understanding climbing grades.

Day 4 | Test & Result Day

The final day is dedicated to evaluating all skills learned during the course. Participants will undergo a practical assessment, viva, and written examination.
Results will be announced shortly after the evaluation.
A felicitation ceremony follows, where successful participants are awarded the ARCC Certificate and badge.
The course concludes with a group reflection and departure.
