HAC Udaan – Thorate Lake Trek

This is a 14 days programme from Pune to Pune.

Students will be travelling by 3 tier AC train to Delhi and further by an overnight bus to Khadapatthar near Shimla. Thorate Lake Trek is a challenging and remote trek that will take place under the guidance of GGIM’s qualified instructors (Both ladies and gents instructors will accompany children from Pune to Pune). This special Trek will be focused exclusively on self dependency, team work, leadership skills, risk management, and decision making in critical times.

Itinerary

Train Travel Details:

Day 1 | Pune → Delhi (Train)

Departure from Pune by Train to Delhi (3 AC)

Day 2 | Delhi → Shimla (Overnight Bus)

Reach Delhi and Drive in the evening to shimla by bus.

Day 3 | Reach Khadapatthar

Reach Shimla and transfer to local jeep. Drive to Giri Ganga campsite near Khadapatthar.Settle in tents and rest.

Day 4 | Training Day & Acclimatization

Climbing and rappelling practice session at Giri Ganga Campsite

Day 5 | Summit Giri Kupper

Ascend to 11,000 feet for acclimatization at Kuppad Peak before returning to the Giri Ganga base camp.

Day 6 | Drive to Trail head & Trek to Jamunta Camp

Journey from Giri Ganga to Tangnu village and then trek to Camp 1 (Jamunta) at approximately 10,500 feet.

Day 7 | Trek to Sundru Camp

Trek through mesmerizing terrain from forests to Sundru Thach.

Day 8 | Summit Push to Thorate Lake

Push your limits as you hike from Sundru Thach to the Summit at an elevation of 15,000 feet.

Day 9 | Buffer Day

Buffer day or rest day.

Day 10 | Trek to Jamunta

Reach back to Jamunta camp.

Day 11 | Trek to Tangnu village

Reach back to Tangnu village and drive to Khadapatthar for a homestay accommodation.

Day 12 | Programme concludes after Certificate Distribution & drive to Shimla. Explore Shimla market and departure to Delhi at night.

Reach back to Tangnu village and drive to Khadapatthar for a homestay accommodation.

Day 13 | Departure to Pune

Reach Delhi in morning and depart to Pune in afternoon.

Day 14 | Reach Pune

Reach back to Pune.

Things to Carry

  1. Trekking Shoes : CTR. Also, you can check in Decathlon too
  2. Cotton socks : 3-4 pair
  3. Woolen Socks : 2 pair
  4. Fleece Jacket / Sweater : 2 (Regular warm clothes)
  5. Track pants : 3
  6. T-shirts : Preferably 4 (Full t-shirts recommended)
  7. Woolen caps / Balaclava : 2 || Buff : 1 or 2
  8. Warm gloves : 1
  9. Waterproof gloves : 1
  10. Undergarments : 4-5 pairs recommended
  11. Towel : 1 full size and 1 medium size
  12. Thermal inners : 1 pair (upper and lower)
  13. Raincoat / Poncho : 1
  14. Sunscreen lotion : Any lotion above 30 SPF will suffice
  15. Goggles : 1 (Dark shade, UV protect – black preferred)
  16. Head or Hand Torch with extra batteries
  17. Extra shoe lace
  18. Hygiene kit : (Tooth brush, paste, mosquito repellent, tissue papers, anti-fungal powder, sanitizer, pee safe spray etc. )
  19. Water bottle : 2 bottles of one litre each
  20. 1 rucksack 50 L & 1 small daypack
  21. Personal medication : Please inform the instructors if you are already on any medication or before consuming any.
  22. Notebook, Pen & Rope Sling
  23. 1 or 2 spare polythene bag to keep wet clothes

Important !!

  • Please carry: Aadhar Card (1 Colored photocopy and 1 Black White Photocopy)
  • Strictly no No Travel Bags. Only rucksacks (One rucksack 40-45 L ; One small sack 10-20 L)
  • Participants should carry a thin blanket for usage during the travel
  • Cash to be carried – around INR 2000
  • Mobile phones, smart phones, camera etc. strictly not allowed
  • IMPORTANT POINT: Sleeping bags, mattress for the trek days will be provided, participants must carry them in their rucksack. So, do not overfill the bag from Pune. Keep space for Sleeping Bag and Mattress.

Balance Fees Payment

Cancellation Policy:
Initial booking amount is non refundable and non transferrable.

    1. If cancellation is made one month or more prior to the trek, we will refund 100% of
      the paid amount (excluding initial booking amount)
    2. If cancellation is made 15 to 30 days prior to the trek, we will refund 50% of the paid
      amount.
    3. If the cancellation is made within 15 days prior to the trek, there will be no refund.
    4. If the trek gets cancelled due to any any natural calamities like Uttarakhand floods,
      Nepal Earthquake, Covid-19 pandemic, we will refund the trek fees deducting actual
      expenses incurred depending on the stage of the trek.

DOs & Don'ts

  • Instructor’s decision will be final and must be adhered to by all students without any argument.
  • No Littering throughout the journey- in the bus, at the place of the food eating, on the trail of the trek.
  • While exploring respect nature and historical monuments do not destroy, damage, or dirty the archeological, historical monuments, or natural habitat in any way on the trek.
  • While in travels and during the treks while crossing the difficult patches students should listen and follow the instructors’ guidelines patiently and sincerely.
  • Everyone must be in proper attire during travel as well as during treks and camps.
  • Take care of all your belongings in travels and treks. If things get lost, it becomes difficult while walking in the mountains.
  • Follow the code of conduct of not causing any kind of trouble to our fellow trekkers from our or other groups.
  • Students should keep the notes of things they are learning during the trek.
  • We request parents to kindly sensitize children about listening and following the decisions of instructors taken from the safety and smooth execution of the programme. In case of any misbehavior or inappropriateness displayed by students, GGIM instructors will bring the matter to the parent’s notice.
