Learning Content

This session introduces participants to the fundamentals of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and its applications in outdoor navigation. Students will understand how satellite-based positioning systems help determine location, track movement, and support navigation during trekking and other outdoor activities. The session will also introduce the basics of using a compass and map together, helping participants understand direction, identify bearings, and accurately plot and follow a bearing on a topographic map.

Through practical exercises, participants will learn to take bearings using a compass, transfer and plot bearings on a map, and relate map information to the terrain around them. These skills will help develop their understanding of navigation, orientation, and route planning, preparing them to navigate confidently and responsibly during future outdoor expeditions.
