Description

Nirmaan Advance Activity for the Month of October 2026

Hello Adventure Enthusiasts and Parents,

Please find the details of the upcoming trek below:

Level: Nirmaan Advance
Trek Destination: Thanale Caves via Waghjai Ghat

The trek from Tail Baila to Thanale Caves via Waghjai Ghat follows an ancient route through the Sahyadri ranges that historically connected the Deccan Plateau with the Konkan region. Tail Baila is known for its striking twin rock walls, which served as prominent landmarks for travellers crossing the mountainous terrain. The surrounding region was also strategically important during the Maratha period, with forts such as Sudhagad guarding routes towards the Konkan coast.

The trail continues through Waghjai Ghat, one of the traditional passes of the Sahyadris that was used by traders, shepherds and local communities. These routes facilitated the movement of goods such as grain, salt and forest produce between the coast and inland markets. The trek culminates at the Thanale Caves, a group of ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves believed to date back to around the 1st century BCE. Carved along an old trade route, the caves feature prayer halls, water cisterns and other rock-cut structures, offering participants an opportunity to explore the historical connection between the Sahyadris, ancient trade routes and Buddhist culture.
